Orff Music Program

Orff Music Program @ Grace Academy

“Elemental music is never just music.  It is bound up with movement, dance and speech, and so it is a form of music in which one must participate, in which one is involved not as a listener but as a co-performer.”  -Carl Orff

“How playing an instrument benefits your brain.”- Anita Collins

Donna Ray joins the Grace family as our new music teacher for grade K-4. This is a dream come true of mine to start an Orff music program! Like many things at Grace, Donna’s credentials are just EXTRAordinary!  We are so blessed to have her as part of our team and I am personally excited to see the creative wonders to come. -Christian

Donna Ray joins Grace Academy as our K-4 music teacher with 30 years of experience working with students PreK through high school age.  She retired as a music teacher from Volusia county and has continued to stay involved with local schools and share her passion for music.  She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Mathematics education and taught math for ten years in the public schools before turning to music.  She found her niche and has loved sharing her gifts with children ever since.  Donna is Nationally Board Certified in Early through Middle Childhood Music and is also trained in the Orff Schulwerk Pedagogy (http://aosa.org/about/what-is-orff-schulwerk/).  Donna is a world-renowned accordion player and has a great story about how she retrieved her LED light up accordion–ask her about it! Donna is a gifted musician and her husband, Dennis, also shares her musical talent.  Together, they have three children: Dr. Brian Ray, Dean of School of Business at the University of Florida and a Chaplain in Army Reserves, Denise, the Music Teacher at Pine Trail Elementary, and Marc, a student at Daytona State College; she also has five grandchildren!  Ms. Ray is so excited to meet her students and get to know them!
